Guide: Sweden's last chance to defend a championship gold

Rider's World Championship, a prestigious event held every four years, is set to commence in Aachen, Germany, on August 11 and conclude on August 23. This year's championship will showcase medals awarded across six distinct disciplines: show jumping, dressage, eventing, para-dressage, four-in-hand driving, and vaulting. Notably, vaulting holds its own World Championship every two years.

The concept of a combined World Championship featuring multiple equestrian disciplines originated in Stockholm in 1990. Since then, the event has been held quadrennially, with the number of included disciplines fluctuating between four and seven over the years. This year's edition in Aachen marks a significant gathering of equestrian talent.

Sweden will be represented by a strong contingent across all disciplines. In show jumping, notable riders include Henrik von Eckermann, Peder Fredricson, and Petronella Andersson. The dressage team features Patrik Kittel, while the eventing squad includes Louise Romeike and Sofia Sjöborg. Para-dressage will see participation from riders like Louise Etzner Jakobsson, and Fredrik Persson will be Sweden's sole representative in the four-in-hand driving competition. Team Svea will compete in the team vaulting event, with individual participants also listed.

The championship's schedule is packed, with dressage events beginning on August 11 and concluding on August 12 for the team competition, followed by individual classes on August 14 and 15. Eventing's dressage phase runs from August 13-14, with cross-country on August 15 and show jumping on August 16. Show jumping competitions, both team and individual, will span from August 19 to August 23, culminating in the individual final on the last day. Para-dressage events are scheduled from August 19 to August 23, and the four-in-hand driving competition includes dressage on August 20-21, followed by the marathon on August 22 and show jumping on August 23.
