Guishan Island to close for 1 day due to Typhoon Hongxia's outer circulation

Guishan Island, a popular tourist destination off Taiwan's northeast coast, will be temporarily closed on July 25 due to the anticipated impact of Typhoon Hongxia's outer circulation. The Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration announced the precautionary closure to ensure the safety of visitors and the integrity of the island's temporary pier facilities.

According to the Central Weather Administration, the northeastern coastal sea surface is expected to experience average wind speeds of force six or higher, with wave heights reaching two to three meters. These conditions pose a significant risk to maritime activities and access to the island.

The administration emphasized that the decision to implement a one-day pre-emptive closure is based on safety considerations for both the docking of vessels and the embarkation and disembarkation of tourists.
