Gumi dissociates self from reports linking him to banditry

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has vehemently denied reports and online materials that falsely link him to supporting banditry in Nigeria. In a statement released from Kaduna, Gumi dismissed these claims as fabricated, manipulated, and doctored by individuals and groups pursuing specific ethnic and sectional agendas.

Gumi asserted that certain media interviews, public lectures, and comments he has made regarding the nation's insecurity have been intentionally distorted. He accused internet content creators of misrepresenting his words to generate sensational headlines and drive online traffic, thereby misleading the public.

"I hereby state unequivocally that any video clip, written statement, or message attributed to me, whether directly or by innuendo, suggesting support for, justification of, protection of, or advocacy for banditry in Nigeria or anywhere else does not emanate from me," Gumi declared. He reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria, describing it as a nation with immense, untapped potential.

The cleric urged the public, media organizations, and government authorities to disregard any misleading information circulating under his name. Furthermore, Gumi issued a stern warning that individuals or groups persisting in spreading falsehoods against him from the date of his statement would face legal consequences. He expressed optimism that Nigeria will surmount its security challenges, offering comfort to victims of violence through a collective resolve to end insecurity.
