Gunfire, masked men, and bribery claims shake Ol Kalou by-election race

The race for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in Kenya has been marred by violence and allegations of electoral malpractice. Masked gunmen, traveling in vehicles with obscured or missing license plates, attacked a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) campaign vehicle near Pembroke Bridge on the Gilgil–Ol Kalou road.

Witnesses reported that the armed men fired shots into the air and assaulted locals following an incident involving the DCP vehicle. Residents protested along the road in Chokereria, expressing their anger and concern over the escalating violence.

As the July 16 by-election approaches, reports of intimidation and voter bribery continue to emerge, casting a shadow over the electoral process. The incident highlights the volatile nature of the campaign and raises questions about the fairness and security of the upcoming vote.
