Gunmen abduct three Nasarawa federal varsity students

The Nasarawa State Police Command is actively searching for the kidnappers of three students from the Federal University of Lafia. The students were abducted on Saturday evening around 8:45 p.m. from their lodge located in the Bukan Kwato area, near the university campus.

So far, no arrest has been made, but efforts are ongoing to ensure their safe release. Though there are underground works that has been done on the pipeline, so we expect to get them released soon.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed that a manhunt has been initiated to rescue the victims unharmed and apprehend the perpetrators. While no arrests have been made yet, Nansel stated that efforts are ongoing, with "underground works" in progress, expressing confidence in the students' imminent release. He mentioned that some suspects have been identified but are awaiting confirmation.

We have some people (suspects) we have pencilled down who have been recognised, but we are waiting for confirmation. But with what is going on, they will soon be out of that place.

A student from the institution, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident and identified the victims as 100-level students. This student expressed growing concern over the persistent kidnapping issues in the area and urged the government to deploy additional security personnel around the university. "We are now becoming scared to sleep with our two eyes closed," the student stated, reflecting the widespread fear among the student body and parents regarding safety in off-campus accommodations.

They are all 100-level students of the university. The issue of kidnapping in this environment has become a thing of great concern.

This abduction marks the latest security incident affecting students of the Federal University of Lafia, intensifying worries about the safety of those residing in off-campus hostels. As of the report's filing, the university's Information Unit had not issued an official statement, though sources within the unit acknowledged awareness of an attack on a female student, but not the reported kidnapping.
