Gunmen attack Ogun varsity students

Students at the Olabisi Onabanjo University's Ibogun campus faced a harrowing ordeal early Saturday morning when approximately 12 gunmen stormed their hostels. The assailants inflicted injuries, including machete cuts, on several students and made off with valuables such as phones and a car, though the vehicle was later abandoned due to a lack of fuel.

For the past three months now, these hoodlums have continued to disturb us, and we have been going to the police station every day to report their nefarious activities.

This attack follows a series of similar incidents and a recent protest by students highlighting their vulnerability to repeated invasions over the past three months. The students had implored the school administration and security agencies for intervention, expressing growing fear for their safety. The Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association confirmed the ongoing distress caused by these hoodlums.

However, for this latest incident, which happened in the early hours of Saturday, the hoodlums were about 12. They came with guns and other weapons.

University and police authorities have acknowledged the breach. The Vice Chancellor stated the institution is collaborating with relevant bodies to find a permanent solution, while the state police command confirmed an ongoing investigation and the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected area. The priority remains ensuring the safety and security of the students against these criminal activities.

They forcefully opened the students’ doors. They packed the students’ phones, necklaces, even beverages—everything. About 10 students were attacked, but in the second hostel, they only stole about six phones.
