Gunmen attack Oyo Immigration office, steal firearms, police begin probe

The Oyo State Police Command is investigating an invasion of the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, where armed assailants reportedly stole firearms from officers on duty Tuesday night.

Oyo State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the attack on the facility of the Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Office in Ogbomoso, following an invasion by armed hoodlums on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm at the Immigration office located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway. Sources indicate that the attackers stormed the facility while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market. The officers on duty were allegedly overpowered and dispossessed of their weapons, though the exact number of firearms taken has not been confirmed.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the invasion happened around 8:45 pm when armed hoodlums scaled the perimeter fence from the rear. Preliminary findings suggest about five assailants gained access through the rear fence bordering a bushland. They reportedly assaulted two immigration officers with sticks and other dangerous weapons before stealing a G3 rifle with ammunition, a mobile phone, a generator, and a motorcycle battery.

Preliminary information available to the Command indicates that at about 8:45 pm, the officer in charge of the facility raised an alarm following the invasion of the premises by armed hoodlums who scaled the perimeter fence from the rear.

The injured officers have received medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition. The police have intensified surveillance and tactical operations in the area, including combing adjoining bushes and likely escape routes, to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen items. Intelligence assets have also been activated to gather information leading to the suspects' arrest.
