Gunmen kill 20 in Kebbi community

At least 20 people died in a brutal attack by suspected bandits on the Fesken Rafi community in Kebbi State, Nigeria. The Kebbi State Government has voiced deep sorrow over the "tragic" incident, extending condolences to the victims' families and residents.

Senator Umar Tafida, the Deputy Governor, led a government delegation to the community on Saturday. He assured residents of the government's unwavering commitment to addressing insecurity and protecting lives and property. Tafida announced plans to deploy more security personnel and operational resources to strengthen security and restore normalcy.

"We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State," Tafida stated during his visit. Local officials, including the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Sani Tela, and State Assembly member Nuradeen Kangiwa, informed the delegation that the attack occurred recently, causing significant loss of life. They praised Governor Nasir Idris for his administration's efforts against insecurity.

Traditional leaders also commended the government's intervention. They appealed for a road connecting Fesken Rafi to the main highway, believing improved access would enhance security responses and economic activity. The attack underscores the persistent security issues plaguing rural Kebbi, despite ongoing efforts to combat banditry.
