Gus Kikin Signs Organizational Contract After Being Named NU Chairman

Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, widely known as Gus Kikin, immediately signed Nahdlatul Ulama's Kontrak Jam'iyyah after delegates formally designated him as chairman of the organization's central executive board.

The signing took place during the fifth plenary session of NU's 35th congress at Bahrul Ulum Islamic boarding school in Tambakberas, Jombang, on Aug. 31, 2026. Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi member KH Anwar Iskandar requested the signature after announcing the council's decision.

Under the contract, Gus Kikin declared that he had served in NU's central Syuriyah or Tanfidziyah leadership for at least one term and had completed PMKNU cadre training. He also declared that he did not hold political office, had not served as a political party official during the previous year and had never faced an organizational sanction involving the suspension of an administration he led.

The five candidates who underwent the selection process were all given the blessing of the elected Rais Aam, and the administrator chosen and designated by AHWA will sign an integrity pact.

He pledged to carry out the chairmanship seriously, protect the organization's mandate and unity, submit written accountability reports, implement congress decisions and follow the policies of the Rais Aam and the central Syuriyah board. He also accepted sanctions under NU's internal rules if he violated the declarations in the contract.

Gus Kikin was chosen through the AHWA process after receiving written approval from the elected Rais Aam. He received 472 votes, the highest total among five candidates. Nine AHWA members signed the official record confirming his appointment.
