Guyana President to Announce International Commission of Inquiry into Ferry Disaster

Guyana's President Irfaan Ali has pledged to establish an international and independent commission of inquiry to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the capsizing and sinking of the MV Barima ferry. The announcement comes after the maritime disaster, one of the deadliest in Guyana's history, claimed numerous lives and sparked widespread calls for a comprehensive investigation.

The five-member panel, set to be announced Sunday, will consist of distinguished experts and professionals with extensive experience in law, marine engineering, maritime safety, and disaster investigation. President Ali emphasized that the members were selected for their independence, technical expertise, and proven abilities.
