Gyeonggi Province Launches Contest for 'Comfort Women' Victims' Peace and Human Rights Messages

Gyeonggi Province is launching a "comfort women" victim peace, human rights, and memory message contest to commemorate "Comfort Women Day" on August 14th. The initiative aims to reflect on the lives and memories of the victims and spread the values of peace and human rights. The contest is open to anyone globally, regardless of age, and features three categories: poetry, drawing, and original songs including lyrics. Participants are encouraged to freely express messages related to the "comfort women" issue. Selected works will be honored with awards and showcased through special exhibitions and performances during the Gyeonggi Province Commemorative Ceremony on August 8th. The submission period runs from August 12th to July 5th, with entries accepted via Naver Form or email. A total of 10 awards will be given, including a grand prize, three top prizes, and six excellence awards, along with a total prize money of 2.6 million won and the Gyeonggi Governor's Award. Currently, only five of the 240 registered "comfort women" victims are alive, all in their 90s.
