Gyeonggi Province to Supply 1,100 Integrated Public Rental Housing Units in Hanam Gyosan

Gyeonggi Province is revolutionizing public rental housing by moving beyond mere shelter provision. The Hanam Gyosan district, a key area for the 3rd new city initiative, will soon host an innovative 'integrated public housing' model that combines living spaces with welfare services and employment opportunities.

This groundbreaking project, approved by the Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation, will see 1,100 rental units constructed across seven buildings. The development is designed not just as housing but as a 'hub social welfare facility,' directly addressing long-standing issues of isolation and marginalization faced by residents, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.

Recognizing that the physical separation of housing and services contributes to these problems, Gyeonggi Province is integrating essential facilities directly into the complex. This includes job counseling centers, shared workshops, and communal spaces like laundromats and lounges, intended to serve as both workplaces and resting areas. Furthermore, the housing will incorporate 'barrier-free design,' such as removing thresholds and installing grab bars, to accommodate residents with mobility issues.

Kim Tae-soo, head of Gyeonggi Province's housing policy division, emphasized the project's significance, stating, "Hanam Gyosan Block A-3 will become a new milestone for public housing, supporting 'social connection' and 'economic self-reliance' beyond simply housing the vulnerable."
