Gyeonggi Selects 15 Families as Exemplary Military-Service Households

Gyeonggi province has selected 15 families for exemplary military-service household recognition, including families linked to student soldiers who fought in the Korean War.

The province reviewed 82 applications from among 2,580 recognized military-service households in Gyeonggi. The program honors families that have served across generations and contributed to their communities.

The Kim Jae-ju family was recognized for a three-generation record of service. First-generation member Kim Gap-shin fought as a student soldier during the Korean War. Second-generation member Kim Jae-ju served in the Marine Corps for about 30 years and received recognition as a national merit honoree. Third-generation members Kim Min-ho, Kim Seon-ho and Kim Gyeong-ho also served in the Marine Corps.

The Lee Ju-sang family descends from independence activist Seokju Lee Sang-ryong. The family received recognition for its continued service to the country, including a family member who died in combat during the Korean War. The Kim Ho-gyeong family was also honored. Kim Seong-su, a first-generation member, served as a guerrilla with the 8240th Unit during the war, while three second-generation and two third-generation members served in the Army. Kim Ho-gyeong also donated a copy of the Korean War armistice draft to the state. The province plans to invite the selected families to an event in October.
