H-beam falls from trailer on Incheon expressway, causing multi-vehicle crash

A large H-beam fell from a trailer onto the Incheon-Gimpo Expressway in South Korea on Tuesday morning, causing a chain-reaction collision involving a passenger car and a truck. The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. near kilometer 17.8 on the expressway heading towards Gimpo.

The driver of the trailer, a man in his 60s, reportedly swerved to avoid a traffic jam, inadvertently causing the H-beam to dislodge and fall onto the road. The heavy steel beam landed on the passenger side of a car traveling in the adjacent lane. The impact pushed the car into a truck that was stopped ahead.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident. Emergency crews responded to the scene, deploying a large crane to remove the debris and clear the roadway. Traffic flow has since been partially restored.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident, with preliminary assessments suggesting the trailer driver may have reacted late to the traffic congestion. The accident caused significant disruption to morning commutes in the area.
