Hacking of a Vaud fiduciary exposes 100,000 client files on the dark web, including that of a state councilor

A significant data breach has exposed the personal and sensitive information of over 100,000 clients of a Swiss fiduciary company. The firm, based in Yverdon-les-Bains, reportedly had its data compromised and subsequently published on the dark web by a digital extortion group known as BravoX.

The breach, which occurred earlier in July, saw approximately 220 gigabytes of data made available online. The exposed files are said to contain sensitive details pertaining to a wide range of clients, including individuals, businesses, institutions, and even municipalities. Some reports indicate that the data of a cantonal councilor is among the leaked information, underscoring the high-profile nature of the breach.

According to the company's director, the incident came to light following a connection problem with their server. They immediately engaged their IT service provider, who has since taken steps to address the situation. The publication of the data on the dark web, with nearly 250 downloads reported by dark web specialists, marks a serious escalation of the cyberattack, raising concerns about potential misuse of the exposed client information.
