Hamburg's A7 Motorway to Close This Weekend, Impacting Traffic

Drivers heading through northern Germany face significant disruptions this weekend as a major section of the A7 motorway near Hamburg will be completely closed. The closure, part of a long-term renovation project, is scheduled from Friday evening, June 12, at 10:00 PM until Monday morning, June 15, at 5:00 AM.

The affected stretch runs from the Stellingen interchange north of the city to the Heimfeld interchange south of Hamburg. This closure is expected to cause considerable delays, particularly for those traveling between Denmark and southern Germany. Hundreds of Danish handball fans planning to drive to Cologne for the Champions League Final Four tournament are among those who may be impacted.

Traffic authorities recommend that drivers bypass Hamburg by taking a wide detour. Suggested alternative routes include using Route 205 from Neumünster Süd, proceeding via Wahlstedt, then taking the A21 over Bargteheide, and finally rejoining the A7 at Horster.

This is not the only planned disruption for the A7. Motorists should also be aware of a more extensive closure scheduled for the weekend of September 11-14. A smaller-scale closure is also anticipated between June 26-29.
