Hamburg shopping center apologizes for barring rainbow flags at Pride event

The Europa Passage shopping center in Hamburg has issued an apology to the queer community following an incident where individuals were denied entry with rainbow flags during Christopher Street Day celebrations. The center clarified that the rejections were due to isolated misunderstandings and not a result of any official policy.

"You celebrate colorfully with us. Rainbow flags and banners are of course allowed during your visit," the shopping center stated on its website. This statement came after security personnel, citing house rules, turned away individuals carrying rainbow flags at two entrances on the day of the parade.

The Europa Passage emphasized that such a ban would contradict its identity as an "open, diverse, and discrimination-free house" that welcomes everyone. To demonstrate this stance, numerous rainbow flags were flown on the building itself during the event. The center plans to review the incidents with its security team to prevent future occurrences.
