Hannover bids to host 'The Finals' multi-sport event again in 2030 or 2031

Hannover aims to host "The Finals," a major multi-sport event, once more, with Mayor Belit Onay suggesting 2030 or 2031 as potential years. Onay celebrated the recently concluded 2026 event as a resounding success, calling it a "big" rather than a "small summer fairytale" that enchanted both athletes and spectators.

The mayor highlighted the event's significant draw, reporting 480,000 attendees. He also emphasized the event's value, noting that its cost of approximately 10 million euros, with the city contributing 1.5 million euros, was a "real bargain" considering the extensive live coverage on national broadcasters ARD and ZDF, which reached millions of viewers.

"The athletes have enchanted the city," Onay stated, reflecting on the positive atmosphere. He indicated that discussions about available dates would take place this week. Dresden has already applied for 2030, having hosted the event previously, while Stuttgart is set to host in 2027. The positive reception from the state government, particularly Interior Minister Daniela Behrens, further bolsters Hannover's bid for a future event.
