Hanwha Group Invests in Regional Talent for AI and Aerospace Industries

Hanwha Group is taking its first step in a 55 trillion won (approximately $40 billion USD) investment plan for the Yeongnam region by forging talent development partnerships with key local universities. The conglomerate aims to build a robust industrial ecosystem for artificial intelligence (AI) and aerospace industries in southeastern South Korea.

Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Ocean, and Hanwha Engine signed agreements on July 12 with Gyeongsang National University, Pusan National University, and National Changwon University. The ceremonies took place at Hanwha Aerospace's R&D center in Changwon. These collaborations are designed to nurture future talent through initiatives like establishing contract departments and specialized master's programs.

The local talent learns in the region, local companies challenge the global market, and local industries lead Korea's future.

Specifically, Pusan National University will collaborate on establishing a contract department, tentatively named the "Advanced Mechanical Systems Engineering Department," and expand R&D cooperation. Gyeongsang National University and National Changwon University will offer contract-based master's programs focused on cultivating AI talent. Students selected for these programs will receive academic and living stipends, internship opportunities, and are expected to be employed by Hanwha affiliates following graduation, provided they meet the necessary procedures.

Kim Dong-kwan, Hanwha Group's Vice Chairman, previously emphasized the vision of creating a virtuous cycle where "local talent learns in the region, local companies challenge the global market, and local industries lead Korea's future." The signing ceremony was attended by over 100 individuals, including Gyeongnam Province Governor Park Wan-su, Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Jeon Jae-soo, and the presidents of the participating universities.
