Hanyang University campuses selected for government TLO innovation project, to receive up to 5 billion KRW

Hanyang University is set to significantly boost its technology commercialization efforts after both its Seoul and ERICA campuses were simultaneously selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'TLO Innovation Type' project. This prestigious selection comes with substantial government funding, potentially reaching up to 5 billion KRW over approximately 30 months, from July 2026 to December 2028.

The 'TLO Innovation Type' project, organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Technology Commercialization Promotion Agency, aims to support technology transfer and startup initiatives. It focuses on fostering collaborative efforts between university technology transfer organizations (TLOs) and researchers, encouraging the development and dissemination of innovative technology commercialization models.

With this funding, Hanyang University's industry-academia cooperation units will identify promising technologies from a total of 11 research labs across both campuses, six from Seoul and five from ERICA. The university plans to provide comprehensive support throughout the entire process, from initial technology verification and product development to commercialization, matching with potential companies, and facilitating technology transfer and startup ventures.

The Seoul campus will implement its proprietary 'HY Frontier ConAct' model to validate and enhance its technology commercialization strategies. This model aims to create a sustainable ecosystem for technology commercialization unique to Hanyang, extending beyond short-term achievements of individual labs to encompass the entire value chain. Meanwhile, the ERICA campus will leverage its 'Business Builder' innovation model and existing regional innovation infrastructure, such as the Local Research and Development Special Zone and the Regional Innovation System and Education (RISE) initiative, to strengthen its technology commercialization capabilities.

The selection of both the Seoul and ERICA industry-academia cooperation units together is a recognition of the technology transfer and commercialization capabilities accumulated by both campuses. We will internalize and disseminate each campus's innovation models, and establish Hanyang's representative university technology commercialization model through joint discovery of excellent technologies, joint IP portfolio construction, and joint technology commercialization.
