Haredi activists plan nationwide protests against IDF draft

Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) activists are set to launch nationwide protests on Wednesday, disrupting key travel infrastructure across Israel. The demonstrations, organized by groups including Agudat Yisrael and the Jerusalem Faction, will focus on opposing the mandatory IDF draft and protesting the arrests of haredi men for draft dodging.

Thousands of drivers are expected to participate in vehicle convoys departing from at least 19 cities, stretching from Safed in the north to Arad in the south. These convoys will travel along major highways, including Routes 1, 4, and 6, and will converge at key interchanges and areas in Jerusalem. The protests follow recent demonstrations outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, which led to the handover of some protesters to military police.

Israel Police are increasing their presence to manage traffic and have advised drivers to seek alternative routes due to anticipated heavy congestion. Authorities are also monitoring social media for potential impromptu flash protests by the Jerusalem Faction, indicating a state of readiness for further disruptions.
