Haredi suspect found to be draft dodger after being detained over disruptively loud noise - report

The suspect was released about 30 minutes later, before military police could reach the scene, according to an organization that assists Haredi draft dodgers.

News of the man's arrest quickly spread through the Haredi community, prompting a large group to gather and pressure the police for his release. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the conscription of ultra-Orthodox men into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The situation is further complicated by recent political developments. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly told officials that if re-elected, he would not advance a contentious law that would freeze arrests of Haredi draft evaders. This law was recently passed by his coalition. Netanyahu indicated that the legislation was unsuccessful and would be discontinued by a future government.

According to a KAN report, Netanyahu stated that draft evaders who do not engage in Torah study would face a choice: "enlist or go to prison."
