Harfuch guarantees investigation of officials regardless of political party; reports 49% decrease in homicide

Mexico's Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch has pledged that all public officials will face investigation if there are indications of criminal activity, emphasizing that political affiliation will not offer protection. Speaking at a press conference alongside President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, García Harfuch highlighted significant progress in national security strategy, including a preliminary 49% reduction in the average daily national homicide rate since the current administration took office.

Harfuch detailed the administration's efforts, noting that institutions within the Security Cabinet have arrested 85 public and former public officials. Among those detained are seven municipal presidents who were in office at the time of their arrest. This crackdown extends to various criminal organizations, with actions including the arrest of 14 individuals for the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, and the dismantling of 2,400 drug laboratories.

The Secretary also mentioned the transfer of 92 high-priority targets to the United States, framing it as a strengthening of the rule of law and strategic coordination between the nations. He stressed that these actions are conducted with respect for national sovereignty, aiming to prevent those who generate violence or traffic drugs from finding safe havens. The government, under President Sheinbaum, has maintained a firm stance against criminal groups, conducting daily arrests, seizing large quantities of weapons and drugs, and dismantling criminal networks.

This is a commitment to seriousness and with the conviction that where there are indications and evidence for those who commit crimes, whether they are public officials or former public officials, they will be investigated and arrested. This is also very important: that citizens know, regardless of party or color, in these cases they were from all parties.
