Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone returns to Mexican cinemas for 25th anniversary

Fans in Mexico will have the chance to experience the magic of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on the big screen once again, as the beloved film returns to theaters to mark its 25th anniversary. Starting August 27, 2026, audiences can revisit the cinematic journey that introduced Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley to the world.

The special re-release, presented by Cinépolis, will be available for a limited time until September 2, 2026. Beyond standard screenings, the film will also be shown in immersive 4DX formats at select locations, offering an enhanced sensory experience. This cinematic event is designed to delight fans with additional exclusive content and a series of collectibles.

Tickets for the anniversary screenings went on sale July 31, allowing fans to plan their return to Hogwarts. The original "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," released in November 2001, was the first film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's iconic book series. It laid the foundation for a franchise that would span eight films and capture the imaginations of millions worldwide.

The story follows an 11-year-old Harry as he discovers his magical heritage and begins his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he forms lifelong friendships and confronts his destiny linked to the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. The film introduced audiences to iconic settings like the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, and the Hogwarts Express, along with the four school houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.

This cinematic revival comes amid a surge of interest in the Harry Potter universe. Recent data indicates a significant increase in online searches related to the books and films in Mexico, with searches for the books up 156% and for the movies up 122% in July. This renewed enthusiasm is further fueled by the development of a new television adaptation of the series.
