Hayatu-Deen boycotts ADC primary results, alleges rigging

Presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen announced he will not attend the official announcement of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary results, citing concerns over the electoral process's integrity. Hayatu-Deen expressed worry about widespread vote rigging observed nationwide and stated he is currently seeking advice on his next course of action.

The ADC conducted direct primaries across Nigeria's wards on May 25, 2026, with over three million party members eligible to vote. The main contenders were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen, who previously chaired the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.

Preliminary results indicate Atiku Abubakar has secured strong leads in several states, including Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, Imo, and Abia, positioning him to likely win the party's 2027 presidential ticket. Rotimi Amaechi emerged victorious in Bayelsa State. The ADC is positioning itself as a significant opposition platform aiming for a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
