HD Hyundai Builds First Naval Ship Jointly Abroad with Peruvian Shipyard

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has initiated a new export strategy by jointly constructing a naval vessel with a local Peruvian shipyard. This collaboration marks a significant departure from its traditional approach of building ships entirely in South Korea before delivery.

The company announced the launch of the first of two new landing support ships for the Peruvian Navy, named 'BAP Chimbote', at the SIMA shipyard in Peru. This event signifies the 'birth announcement' of the vessel, a crucial step in its construction process.

This joint-building model was chosen for two of the four vessels HD Hyundai secured in a contract with the Peruvian Navy in April 2024, which also included frigates and offshore patrol vessels. The second landing support ship, 'BAP Talara', has also completed its onshore construction phase and is nearing completion.

This venture represents HD Hyundai's first time building a vessel overseas in partnership with a local shipyard, signaling a new era in its international shipbuilding collaborations and export initiatives.
