HD Hyundai Chairman Urges Focus on 10-Year Vision, Not Short-Term Gains

HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun has called on the company's management to adopt a long-term perspective, emphasizing sustainable growth over immediate financial gains. Speaking at a group-wide meeting of executives, Chung stressed the importance of developing strategies that look 10 to 20 years ahead.

The meeting, held at the Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, included vice chairmen and CEOs from 11 subsidiaries across shipbuilding, offshore, energy, and construction machinery sectors. Participants reviewed the first half of the year's performance, progress on new business ventures, and future growth strategies. Discussions also covered group-level priorities, including accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and developing corresponding execution roadmaps.

Chung acknowledged the group's solid performance across most business areas despite increasing global uncertainty. However, he cautioned against becoming fixated on short-term results, recalling past experiences where a failure to adapt to market changes led to severe consequences. "If we focus on long-term performance rather than immediate results, the priorities of what we need to do now can change," he stated, highlighting the need for forward-thinking decision-making.

The company also reviewed its current AI adoption status and discussed potential information security risks and preventative measures associated with expanded AI use.
