Head of IDF Ground Forces Planning Department, Col. Netanel Lasri, dies at age 40

Colonel Netanel Lasri, who led the Planning Department for the Israeli Ground Forces, has died at the age of 40. His passing followed a prolonged battle with cancer, as announced by Army Radio on Saturday night.

Lasri, a distinguished officer in the armored corps, had a notable career that included commanding the 9th Battalion in the 401st Brigade. Under his leadership, the 9th Armored Battalion earned the Chief of Staff Award for excellent performance in 2020. He was recognized for instilling discipline and adherence to orders within the corps.

His military service was interrupted in 2024 when he was diagnosed with cancer. This illness necessitated his departure from his position as brigade commander after only eight months. Despite his health challenges, Lasri was later appointed to head the Planning Department for IDF ground forces, a role he maintained until his death.
