Health Minister to Visit Minya to Oversee Universal Health Insurance Rollout

Egypt's Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, is scheduled to visit Minya Governorate on Saturday. The minister will inspect the Spatial Intelligence Complex in Abu Filo, where citizens are being registered for the Universal Health Insurance system. He will also visit six other medical facilities, including the Health Insurance Hospital in Minya city, the University Tri-City Hospital, Abu Qurqas Central Hospital, the Atleedam village health unit, Mallawi Specialized Hospital, and Deir Mawas Specialized Hospital.

Accompanying the minister will be Governor Emad Kewedan, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, head of the General Authority for Healthcare, and Dr. Mahmoud Omar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Minya. The Ministry of Health announced the start of the experimental operation of the Universal Health Insurance system in Minya Governorate at the beginning of June. The system is being rolled out across nine administrative centers, aiming to provide advanced medical care to nearly 7 million citizens.

This initiative follows a meeting where President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized the importance of ensuring medical, technical, and administrative readiness before facilities are opened. The President also stressed accelerating the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance system's mechanization and establishing an integrated national digital health system. This system aims to achieve integration and interconnection of health information and data management for efficient operation and spending, while supporting artificial intelligence applications in healthcare facilities.
