Health Ministry investigates suspected Ebola case after traveler develops symptoms

Israel's Health Ministry is actively investigating a suspected case of the Ebola virus after a traveler returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo began exhibiting symptoms. The individual, who arrived back in Israel three days ago, sought medical attention for a fever and headache, common early signs of the infection.

The patient has been transferred to Rambam Health Care Campus, a designated facility for such cases, and is currently in isolation. The ministry emphasized that the situation is still under suspicion, with laboratory tests underway and results anticipated within the next 24 hours. An epidemiological investigation is also in progress to identify potential contacts.

Ministry officials stated that Israel is prepared for such scenarios, having continuously monitored the virus in the DRC and Uganda. Professional guidelines have been distributed to medical teams, and protective equipment is readily available. Early detection mechanisms for returning travelers and a laboratory detection system for Ebola infection have been established.

The Health Ministry has reissued travel warnings, advising against non-essential travel to active Ebola outbreak zones, specifically the DRC and Congo. For those who must travel, consultation at a travel clinic is recommended. Returning travelers from affected areas who develop fever or unusual symptoms within 21 days are urged to stay home, avoid contact with others, and contact the Health Voice Call Center.
