Heat and fire danger: storm warning issued across almost all of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is bracing for a period of volatile weather, with storm warnings issued across almost the entire country. Residents can expect short showers and thunderstorms throughout the day in many regions, including Astana and Zhetysu Region.

Alongside the precipitation, extreme heat is a significant concern. Daytime highs are predicted to reach a scorching 40 degrees Celsius in Shymkent. Other areas like Zhetysu Region will see highs of 35 degrees, while West Kazakhstan anticipates severe heat between 35-38 degrees Celsius. This intense heat, combined with dry conditions in many places, fuels a high to extreme fire danger across the nation.

Strong winds are another major factor, with gusts expected to reach 15-20 meters per second in several areas, including Almaty, Shymkent, Zhetysu, Mangystau, Aktobe, North Kazakhstan, and West Kazakhstan regions. Some areas, particularly in Mangystau and West Kazakhstan, may experience dust storms. Hail and squalls are also forecast for the north and west of Aktobe region and parts of North Kazakhstan Region.

The meteorological forecast highlights a complex weather pattern, with varying conditions across different oblasts. While some areas face thunderstorms and potential hail, the persistent high temperatures and strong winds create a widespread risk of wildfires, particularly in the northern, eastern, and central parts of the country.
