Heatwave Alert: Hesse Faces Temperatures Up to 38 Degrees Celsius

Hesse and surrounding regions in Germany are preparing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures predicted to soar well above 30 degrees Celsius in the coming days. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a heat warning for several states, including Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria. This official warning is set to be in effect from Thursday at 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM.

Thursday is expected to start sunny, with scattered clouds developing in the afternoon. The DWD anticipates highs between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly over higher elevations. The night leading into Friday will remain largely dry, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Friday's forecast indicates a mix of clear skies and clouds, with the potential for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb further, reaching between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius, creating uncomfortably humid and hot conditions. These temperatures are approaching the record high for June in Hesse, which was 39.3 degrees Celsius recorded in Frankfurt on June 30, 2019.

The weekend is not expected to bring much relief. Friday night will see thunderstorms, with overnight lows between 17 and 21 degrees Celsius. Saturday will continue the pattern of partly cloudy skies and the possibility of severe thunderstorms, with maximum temperatures ranging from 31 to 37 degrees Celsius.
