Heatwave continues in Serbia: 35 degrees in Ćuprija

Serbia is currently enduring a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures showing no signs of abating. At noon on the day of reporting, Ćuprija registered the highest temperature at 25 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Sombor and Novi Sad at one degree lower. Many other cities, including Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Banatski Karlovac, Loznica, Sremska Mitrovica, Valjevo, Belgrade, Kragujevac, Kruševac, and Niš, recorded 33 degrees Celsius.

The mountainous regions offered some respite, with Kopaonik at 20 degrees Celsius and Crni Vrh at 25 degrees. Zlatibor was slightly warmer at 27 degrees. According to the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ), this intense heat is forecast to continue throughout the first ten days of August. Urban areas are bracing for tropical nights, with minimum temperatures expected to range from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius, and in Belgrade, potentially between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.

The RHMZ has issued a public health warning, advising citizens to avoid direct sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. due to the health risks associated with high temperatures. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and seek cool environments whenever possible. The persistent heat underscores the need for public awareness and preventative measures during this extended period of extreme weather.
