Heatwave ending? Temperatures to drop by 10 degrees, heavy rain possible

After enduring a severe heatwave, Croatia anticipates a welcome change as temperatures are projected to drop significantly next week. Forecasters suggest a potential decrease of up to 10 degrees Celsius, offering relief from the current sweltering conditions.

While hot and very hot weather persists, with daytime highs in some parts of the country nearing 40 degrees Celsius, a shift is on the horizon. Current predictions indicate that the period of extreme heat may be drawing to a close, with a noticeable cooling expected during the upcoming week. This change could also bring substantial rainfall to some areas, breaking a long spell of dry weather.

Through Wednesday and Thursday, most of Croatia will experience sunny skies, though some inland areas might see increased cloud cover and isolated showers. Coastal regions, particularly Dalmatia, could also experience localized thunderstorms, especially inland. Temperatures will remain high, potentially reaching 40 degrees Celsius along the Adriatic coast. Strong winds, including potential storm-force gusts of the Bura wind, are expected along the coast.

According to meteorologist Tea Blažević's forecast, stable and very warm weather will continue during the second half of the week.

By Friday, while the coast will experience stronger Bura winds, temperatures are expected to begin a gradual decline. The weather should remain stable, with minimal precipitation. The weekend is forecast to be predominantly sunny but with more comfortable temperatures than the preceding days. Although the intense heat may not disappear entirely, its severity is expected to lessen.

A more significant change is anticipated towards the end of next week. Prognostic models suggest the possibility of a considerable temperature drop, possibly accompanied by heavier rain in certain locations. If these forecasts hold true, Croatia could finally experience a marked cooling after an extended period of intense heat.
