Heatwave forces new train cancellations on Clermont-Paris line

Passengers on the Clermont-Ferrand to Paris train line are once again confronting significant disruptions as the SNCF announces further cancellations due to the ongoing heatwave. This marks the fifth episode of extreme heat this summer, and train services are being reduced during the hottest periods.

On Wednesday and Thursday, several Intercités trains connecting Clermont-Ferrand to the capital will not run. This measure has become a recurring response to high temperatures; in June alone, 71 services were canceled across various routes, including the Paris-Clermont-Ferrand line.

Specifically for Wednesday, August 12, four services are removed. From Clermont-Ferrand, trains 5966 (departing 10:27 AM) and 5970 (departing 1:29 PM) are canceled. In the opposite direction from Paris-Bercy, trains 5959 (departing 12:58 PM) and 5963 (departing 1:56 PM) will not operate.

Thursday, August 13, is expected to be even more challenging, with six cancellations. Trains 5966 and 5970 from Clermont-Ferrand will again be canceled, joined by train 5978 (scheduled for 4:30 PM). From Paris-Bercy, passengers will face the cancellation of trains 5959 (12:58 PM), 5963 (1:56 PM), and 5971 (3:57 PM).

The SNCF stated that the situation remains subject to change based on weather forecasts, particularly for the upcoming August 15 weekend. Passengers affected by cancellations have the option to exchange their tickets or receive a refund at no cost. Real-time updates on train status are available via the SNCF Connect application.
