Heatwave: STEG announces new rolling power outages in several regions starting at 6 a.m.

Tunisia's national electricity provider, STEG, has announced the possibility of rolling power outages across several regions on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The measure is being implemented to ensure the safety and continuity of the national electrical system amidst a severe heatwave and a subsequent surge in electricity demand.

These temporary interruptions are expected to occur intermittently between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. STEG has advised citizens to take necessary preventive measures, noting that power could be restored without prior notice. The company also stated that the list of affected areas is not definitive and may be expanded based on the evolving situation.

For any incidents or further information, STEG has provided its customer service number, 71 239 222, along with contact details found on consumption bills. This action follows a warning from the National Institute of Meteorology (INM), which placed 20 out of Tunisia's 24 governorates under high vigilance for extreme heat on Tuesday. The forecast includes very hot weather and the sirocco wind, which significantly increases the strain on the national electricity grid.
