Heatwave Warnings Expanded Across South Korea Amidst Rising Temperatures

South Korea is experiencing a significant heatwave, prompting the expansion of heatwave advisories across several regions, including the capital area, Chungnam, Honam, and Yeongnam.

As of August 13, heatwave advisories have been issued for areas such as southern Gyeonggi Province, Chungnam, and parts of Gwangju and Daegu. The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that the apparent temperature is expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius in the capital region, Chungnam, and southern provinces, indicating a continuation of muggy weather.

Daily high temperatures are forecast to range between 26 to 34 degrees Celsius on August 13, rising to 27 to 35 degrees Celsius on August 14, and remaining between 27 to 33 degrees Celsius on August 15. A heatwave advisory is issued when the apparent temperature is expected to exceed 33 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days or when a rapid increase in temperature or prolonged heatwave is anticipated to cause significant damage.

Despite the intense heat, some areas can expect rain or showers. Showers are predicted for inland areas of Chungcheong and southern regions on August 13. On August 14, showers are expected in Seoul, Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, inland Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang provinces. Similar conditions are forecast for August 15 in inland areas of the capital region, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang.

Meanwhile, the eastern coast is expected to experience continuous rain. The eastern coast and highlands of Gangwon Province may receive 10 to 50 millimeters of rain by August 14, while Ulleungdo and Dokdo could see 20 to 60 millimeters. The eastern coast and northeastern highlands of Gyeongbuk are expected to receive 5 to 40 millimeters.
