Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms forecast for southern Taiwan counties

Taiwan's Meteorological Service issued heavy rain advisories early this morning for four counties in the south and east, including Taitung. Simultaneously, immediate severe thunderstorm warnings were put in place for Tainan City and Kaohsiung City, indicating the potential for intense, short-duration rainfall.

The advisories are attributed to the influence of a low-pressure trough and southwest winds, which are expected to bring localized heavy downpours to southern Taiwan and Orchid Island (Lanyu) today. The severe thunderstorm warning for Tainan and Kaohsiung, initially predicted to last until 6:39 AM, highlighted the possibility of strong winds, frequent lightning, and thunder, alongside the heavy rainfall.
