Heavy rain forces Kenting National Forest Recreation Area to close on Sept. 1

Heavy rain will close Taiwan’s Kenting National Forest Recreation Area on Sept. 1 for environmental cleanup and preparation.

The Pingtung branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency said a low-pressure system had brought a heavy-rain warning to the Hengchun Peninsula. Water had accumulated at Xiandong and Yinlong caves, while flooding and mudflows affected several trails.

Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area and Linhousilin Plain Forest Park will remain open. However, Shuangliu’s water-crossing areas will stay closed because river levels remain high. Visitors heading to Shuangliu Waterfall must take a route along the mountain instead, while the Bai Rong Trail can only be accessed by turning back along the same route.

The agency urged people visiting mountain areas to check local weather, transport and environmental conditions before traveling, as further localized heavy rain remains possible. Updated opening information is available through Taiwan’s Mountain Forest Recreation Network.
