Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for South Korea, Government Prepares Emergency Response

South Korea is bracing for significant rainfall, with forecasts predicting up to 300 millimeters of precipitation in some regions from June 26 to 27. The government has activated emergency response systems in anticipation of the heavy downpours, which are expected to affect the entire country.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced on June 25 that a low-pressure system combined with abundant moisture will bring widespread rain. Jeju Island and the southern coastal areas are most likely to experience rainfall levels warranting a heavy rain warning. Some parts of these regions have already begun to see precipitation, with the forecast indicating an expansion to the Jeolla provinces by the evening.

From June 26 to 27, widespread heavy rain is expected nationwide due to the influence of a low-pressure system and abundant moisture.

By the morning of June 26, the rain is expected to spread across most of the country as a result of overlapping influences from a southwestern low-pressure system and a northwestern trough. While the rain is predicted to gradually cease in western areas by the morning of June 27, the eastern coastal regions may experience continued rain until the afternoon due to easterly winds.

Jeju's mountainous areas could receive over 300 millimeters of rain, while the southern coast and Jirisan National Park might see more than 200 millimeters. Northern Gyeongsang Province and its eastern coast are also forecast to receive substantial rainfall, potentially exceeding 100 millimeters. Jeju's mountain areas are particularly at risk, with expectations of intense rainfall between 50 to 80 millimeters per hour from the night of June 25 to the afternoon of June 26.
