Heavy Rains Halt Taiwan Train Services on South-Link, Taitung Lines

Southern and eastern Taiwan are experiencing torrential downpours, leading to significant disruptions in train services. The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) announced that express trains on the South-Link and Taitung lines will be suspended until noon on Monday.

This severe weather is attributed to the strengthening of the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure system affecting the region. Heavy rain and localized downpours are expected in areas south of Chiayi and in eastern Taiwan, with southern regions and Hualien's mountainous areas potentially facing rainfall exceeding豪大雨 (heavy rain) levels.

While express trains on the South-Link and Taitung lines are halted, other services will run as scheduled. However, trains on certain sections, particularly between Heping and Chongde on the East Line, will operate at reduced speeds of 25 kilometers per hour. Non-express trains on the Taitung Line will also proceed with caution, with adjustments made based on rainfall.

TRA has advised passengers to check the latest service updates before traveling. Information can be found on the TRA website, by calling their 24-hour service line, or at local stations. Passengers with tickets for the suspended trains can receive a full refund without a handling fee within one year of the original travel date.
