Heavy Use of Villa Ingenio Puts Bolivia’s Home Ground at Risk

Villa Ingenio, the stadium Bolivia adopted as its new home in mid-2024, could lose the national team’s home matches because it is being used too often for other events.

A report by Enrique Galdo, director of the Siempre Verde program, warned about the condition of the El Alto venue and the need for proper pitch maintenance. Repeated use leaves less time for the grass to recover and for the work needed to keep the field in top condition.

The report also pointed to El Alto Mayor Eliser Roca over the frequent use of the stadium. The concern is especially acute when Bolivia needs the venue for official international matches, since the pitch requires recovery periods and ongoing care.

The Bolivian Football Federation told DIEZ that it was worried about the situation and said this was not the first difficulty involving the municipal administration and the stadium. If the field does not receive the required care and fails to meet international standards, the federation will have to find another venue for Bolivia’s home games. That would put the team’s new base in El Alto at risk after it left the historic Hernando Siles Stadium in La Paz.
