Heba El Kady: Trump pressured Netanyahu to stop escalation

Journalist Heba El Kady reported that US President Donald Trump was dismayed by the reciprocal strikes between Israel and Iran, characterizing the actions as "a mix of ignorance and stupidity" that hinder negotiations with Tehran.

El Kady explained that Trump is keen on reaching a preliminary agreement to pave the way for a final deal that would end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz. She noted that the White House has confirmed frequent communications between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which included US pressure to cease attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a stronghold of Hezbollah.

According to El Kady, Trump warned that Israel would face the situation alone without American support if it continued striking Lebanon. She emphasized that Washington believes Lebanon should be part of any comprehensive political solution. El Kady added that Netanyahu seeks to leverage the military escalation for domestic gains and to alleviate judicial pressure against him.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to exert strong pressure to keep negotiations on track, especially amid ongoing discussions about releasing Iranian funds in exchange for concessions on the nuclear file and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
