Hennessey unveils the new Blackbird hypercar

Hennessey has introduced the Blackbird, a new hypercar engineered for drivers seeking both high performance and the capability for extensive journeys. This marks the third hypercar developed by Hennessey's "Special Vehicles" division, following the Venom GT and Venom F5, leveraging the company's established expertise in the hypercar segment. John Hennessey, founder and CEO, stated that the Blackbird was conceived with a simple vision: "to deliver an analog experience where beauty and drama define every moment." The design draws inspiration from the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird aircraft, influencing not only its name but also its aerodynamic profile. The hypercar features a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine, developed in partnership with Ilmor Engineering, capable of generating between 800 and 850 horsepower and exceeding 9,000 revolutions per minute. It boasts a top speed of 354 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds. The aircraft's influence is evident in the car's long stance, disciplined surfaces, sharp body-side beltline, and active vertical stabilizers that deploy automatically at 71 mph. Hennessey has prioritized an analog driving experience, eschewing digital infotainment screens and steering wheel buttons in favor of a prominent central analog tachometer. Connectivity is handled through a discreet technology strategy, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphones. Production of the Blackbird will be strictly limited to 71 examples globally, with a price tag of $2.5 million before taxes. Hennessey Special Vehicles reports that over two-thirds of the production run has already been allocated prior to its public debut on August 14 at The Quail in California. Customer deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2030. The Blackbird is designed to cover over 800 miles in a single day, with its carbon fiber chassis and body contributing to a target weight of under 1,360 kg.
