Henry Shefflin appointed as new Kilkenny manager

Henry Shefflin has officially been appointed as the new senior hurling manager for Kilkenny, a move ratified by the county board during an online meeting.

Shefflin, widely regarded as the most decorated player in the history of the sport, was the favorite to succeed Derek Lyng. He previously managed Kilkenny's under-20 team this season. The appointment follows what Kilkenny GAA described as a "comprehensive recruitment process" that attracted a strong field of candidates.

Kilkenny chairman PJ Kenny welcomed Shefflin, stating, "On behalf of Kilkenny GAA, I am delighted to welcome Henry Shefflin as our senior hurling manager. Henry has an outstanding record of achievement and leadership, and we are confident he will bring tremendous experience, ambition and professionalism to the role." Kenny also thanked all candidates who applied, noting the high caliber of applicants reflected the esteem in which Kilkenny hurling is held.

This marks Shefflin's second senior intercounty managerial role, having previously managed Galway. Kilkenny will also be appointing a new manager for their under-20 team.
