Herder, 11 cows killed in Rivers road crash

A tragic road accident on the East-West Road in Rivers State has resulted in the death of a herder and around 11 cows. The incident occurred at Evekwu in Rumuodogu, Emohua Local Government Area, when a speeding Mercedes-Benz car collided with a herd of cattle crossing the road.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was part of a convoy. The collision was severe, leading to the immediate death of multiple cows and the herder. Following the crash, the occupants of the Mercedes-Benz reportedly abandoned their damaged vehicle and fled the scene in another car from the convoy.

Police officers from the Emohua Division responded to the scene. They evacuated the body of the deceased herder and transported the injured victim to a hospital for medical attention. A video circulating showed several dead cows and men gathered near them in a nearby bush.

Blessing Agabe, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident. She stated that one person died, and another was injured but is now stable in the hospital. Agabe also confirmed that the owner of the Mercedes-Benz fled before the police arrived. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the body of the deceased herder was released to his people.
