Cape Verde's World Cup hero, goalkeeper Vozinha, will have his mother cheering him on from the stands during Sunday's match against Uruguay in Miami. U.S. officials have expedited a visa for Ana Candida Evora, ensuring a reunion after she missed Cape Verde's historic first World Cup game.

Vozinha, 40, was instrumental in holding European champions Spain to a 0-0 draw on Monday, becoming a breakout star of the tournament. However, he revealed his mother's absence was due to a visa issue, a situation that prompted intervention from U.S. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.

This situation arose partly due to a previous requirement under President Donald Trump's immigration policy, which mandated some citizens to post bonds of up to $15,000 for U.S. entry. Although this requirement was later dropped for World Cup ticket holders, Evora had initially deemed the trip too costly. Jeffries confirmed that all fees have been waived and travel arrangements are being made for the mother and son's reunion in Miami.
