Hesse braces for severe storms and heatwave up to 37 degrees Celsius

Residents of Hesse, Germany, are advised to prepare for a significant shift in weather conditions as severe storms are expected to hit the region starting Thursday, following a period of intense heat. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds.

Wednesday is forecast to be sunny and hot, with temperatures peaking between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius (91.4 to 98.6 Fahrenheit). A light wind is expected, primarily from the south. Overnight into Thursday, the weather will remain mostly clear, with temperatures dropping to between 14 and 22 degrees Celsius depending on the location.

However, the DWD anticipates a dramatic change on Thursday afternoon. Meteorologists are predicting showers and thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, severe wind gusts, and hail. There is also a possibility of hurricane-force winds. Despite the stormy conditions, temperatures are expected to remain high, ranging from 34 to 37 degrees Celsius.

The weather is expected to be partly cloudy on Friday, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible. The maximum temperatures will decrease slightly, ranging between 30 and 34 degrees Celsius. The night into Friday will see partly cloudy skies with potential local rain, with temperatures cooling to between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius across the region.
