Hidalgo Considered for 2027 National Olympics; Sinade to Select Host

Hidalgo is vying to host the 2027 National Olympics, a major sporting event organized by Mexico's National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (Conade). Rommel Pacheco Marrufo, director of Conade, confirmed that the National System of Physical Culture and Sport (Sinade), comprising state institutes and federations, will ultimately decide the host city through a vote.

Pacheco noted that Hidalgo has shown continued interest in hosting the games. He highlighted that the state possesses a newly inaugurated sports center with the capacity to accommodate various sports, suggesting favorable conditions for hosting. Hosting the National Olympics involves over 51 sports and more than 40,000 athletes participating in the qualification process. Pacheco explained that hosting such an event is akin to preparing for a large party at home, requiring significant improvements. "There is a remodeling of the sports infrastructure, and that remains in the state for the athletes of each of the entities to continue practicing sports," he said.

In May, Óscar Pérez Rojas, head of the Hidalgo Institute of Sport (Inhide), had expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of Hidalgo hosting, following a proposal from President Claudia Sheinbaum. He mentioned that details for the High-Performance Sports City in Pachuca were being finalized. "We will seek to host some sports in Hidalgo; we will have to see, these are just details left to make the sports city one hundred percent," he stated.

Beyond the Olympic bid, Pacheco also mentioned that President Sheinbaum has tasked Conade with organizing five national boxing classes. The next event is scheduled for August 16, utilizing 275 public spaces and gyms linked to the "Boxeando por la Paz" program.
