High-rises sealed and three Islamabad hospitals fined over fire safety violations

Islamabad authorities have sealed several high-rise buildings and fined three hospitals after a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences killed 14 newborn babies.

The Capital Development Authority fined Pims, Polyclinic and its own Capital Hospital Rs500,000 each for “non-compliance with Fire and Life Safety Requirements”. The enforcement drive followed the fatal incident and targeted fire safety violations across the capital.

In Blue Area, the authority sealed the Shaheed-i-Millat Building, State Life Building, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Building and Beverly Centre. Two hotels were partially sealed, while officials continued inspecting the National Insurance Company Limited building.

The action reflects an intensified inspection campaign after the Pims fire. The authority said its teams were enforcing fire and life safety regulations in high-rise buildings and other facilities across Islamabad.
